Spiritual baths – Why you should take them.

Taking a spiritual bath simply means taking your bath to another level that not only cleanses your body, but also cleanses your spirit and aura, helping to balance your energies. A spiritual bath can be compared to the ritualistic baths practiced in ancient Egypt and ancient Rome, where  various herbs, goats milk and Honey, were used in cleansing rituals to rid the body of any lingering negative energies, and to invite good energy to the body.

1. Prepare your space.

Clean your bathroom thoroughly before starting your spiritual bath. Your space needs to be extra clean. Use candles, incense, crystals, and essential oils to create an uplifting energetic vibe around you. If you don’t have Sage, Frankincense, or Palo Santo, burn some Rosemary or Basil. Try to make some time to be alone for at least 30 minutes.

2. Gather your ingredients. Using salt is very beneficial in spiritual baths and it’s important to use only natural salts like Pink Himalayan Salt, Epsom salts, or “Ada salt” if you live in Ghana. You will also need herbs like bay leaf, Parsley, Basil, “Nyanyina” if you live in Ghana, and flower petals like Hibiscus and. Marigold. There is a long list of herbs and flowers that you can use for various intents and purpose.

3. You can either soak in a bath if you have a bath tub, or you can use a bucket and a smaller container to fetch and pour the water over you.  Either way you will need to first steep your herbs in hot water to release their benefits. Once your “herb tea” is ready you can then add it to your bucket or to your bath tub. Don’t overcook your herbs. Just bring them to a boil, turn off the heat and allow to steep for about 15 minutes.

4. Set your intentions and open up your consciousness, ready to connect to your higher self and ultimately to divine consciousness. Practice meditation during your bath to help you release all negative vibrations that no longer serve your highest good. As you soak, or as you pour the infused water over your head, imagine your aura being cleansed. Imagine all your Chakras being cleansed and refreshed, while you repeat powerful mantras that will govern you and your energy space.

5. Imagine all negative energies falling away from you as your aura feels lighter and brighter. Repeat your mantras as you strain out your herbs and clean the bathroom after your bath. You may follow up with a clear water bath or shower.

Why take a spiritual bath?

Using salts, crystals, incense, and herbs of the earth in an intentional spiritual bath serves many purposes. In our daily lives we come accross different types of energies – some of which are positive and uplifting, and others which are not. We carry traces of energy that we pick up from various situations along our life’s journey so it’s important that we are conscious of maintaining and cleansing our energy space, removing blockages and releasing energies that no longer serve us. Psychologically, a spiritual bath helps you relax your mind, and to find some consolation to your personal struggles. Esoterically, you are aligning your mind, body, and spirit, and inviting new blessings into your life.
