Plastic is one of the most useful things ever invented, depending on how you want to look at it. But SINGLE USE plastics have become a monster in many societies around the world – choking drains, poisoning water bodies, causing the death of wildlife.. The list goes on and on.
Ghana continues to suffer from the various negative effects of single use plastics from bad drainage in our cities, to the devastating effects along our sea shores. The challenge to solve this problem comes down to us. Each and every one of us.
Our choices everyday determine the outcome of our lives. What we choose to do now will determine how our future will look like, so let us do the right thing. We owe it to our children and generations to come. Let us re-think how we use and dispose of single use plastics, and if possible let us refuse them entirely.

A few years ago I joined the CLOTH IS COOL campaign initiated by Mr. John Sullivan, founder of PLANET WAVES – an NGO calling for a clean and Green Ghana. Why are cloth bags so cool? Because they are re-usable and eliminate the need for a plastic bag. If you decide to start a collection of cloth bags, you will make a huge difference just by refusing single use plastic bags whenever you shop.
PLANET WAVES has grown in strength under the leadership of Naomi Suzuki – Mochizuki and her core team.

Aside from our Waste segregation (waste separation) projects, PLANET WAVES now participates in the Green Butterfly Market, selling handmade cloth bags every first and third Saturday of the month at the Department of Parks and Gardens in Cantonments next to the Italian Embassy. Get your first cloth bag as soon as you can. Let’s make a visible change in Ghana.
